Who is Lillian R. Gleitsman?

The Lillian R. Gleitsman Medical Student Geriatric Scholars Program was established in 1988 at the UCLA School of Medicine with a gift from Alan L. Gleitsman. The scholarship is in memory of his mother, Lillian, who died in 1987. Both Mr. Gleitsman and his mother, during her later years, felt it was essential to foster research and education in geriatrics to facilitate improvements in the compassionate, effective and appropriate care of older persons. The student scholarship is designed to increase awareness of geriatrics as a unique field of medicine, to support the work of outstanding medical students in the field of geriatrics, and to encourage students to consider leadership roles in academic geriatric medicine. The Gleitsman Scholarship provides additional funding for the students participating in MSTAR at UCLA.
