Health Professional Education and Training

The comprehensive didactic and clinical education program provides an interdisciplinary approach to the care of older adults. The VA plays a leading role in preparing the nation's geriatricians. In 1997-1998 alone, 239 health professionals have been trained in geriatrics at WLA. GRECC produces and disseminates geriatric readers for 11 different disciplines.

GRECC WLA plays a leadership role at the state and national level for integration of geriatrics into health professional curriculum through liaison with the California Council on Gerontology and Geriatrics, Association for Gerontology in Higher Education, and professional organizations. Recent White Papers published through the U.S. Bureau of Health Professions present curriculum recommendations.
