Introduction
and Overview

The
UCLA Claude Pepper Older Americans Independence Center (OAIC)
is designed to promote the independence of older persons by
providing support for research to develop and test clinical
interventions, and for core laboratories in the basic sciences.
An equally important component of the UCLA OAIC's mission
is training future leaders in aging research. The Center projects
emphasize a theme of motivating elders to implement and maintain
prescribed intervention procedures to maximize independence.
The
disciplines of medicine, nursing, public and allied health,
social welfare and dentistry are involved in the research
projects; center-wide support components include the leadership
core, the research development core, the research resource
cores, and the dissemination core. The UCLA Pepper Center
draws from the available resources of the UCLA Multicampus
Program in Geriatric Medicine with its wide range of community
and institutional affiliations.
