Listserv Instructions

Interested in improving nursing home care? Then please join us.

This message is an invitation to you and other professionals with an interest in long-term care, including nursing home staff, Quality Improvement Organization officers, and representatives of advocacy groups, to subscribe to the UCLA/JHA Borun Center’s new listserv.

The listserv’s intent is to enhance care quality in nursing homes by providing a forum for discussion and the exchange of ideas, experiences, and other helpful information among long-term-care professionals and paraprofessionals.

This listserv is hosted by the UCLA Borun Center for Gerontological Research, a joint program of the UCLA School of Medicine and the Jewish Home for the Aging of Greater Los Angeles. The listserv is an outgrowth of the Borun Center’s recent efforts to improve nursing home care by offering the online training modules available on this site.

How to Subscribe

As with most listservs, there is no charge to join this one, and it takes just a few minutes to subscribe online. You need only subscribe once to get on the list.

Go to http://lists.ucla.edu/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/borun. There you will be prompted to complete and submit an online form. The form asks for your email address and name (optional), then asks you to pick a password and a language to display messages. You can choose to receive messages from the listserv as they are posted or at one time each day “batched in a daily digest.” After you hit the “Subscribe” button, you will receive an email message that asks you to confirm your subscription; a click of the mouse will do it.

You will be mailed a confirmation and a short welcome message about how to use the listserv. It is important that you keep this message as it tells you how to unsubscribe from the list. Consider making a hardcopy of the welcome message. If you do not receive a confirmation and welcome message shortly after subscribing, or if you experience difficulties, please email the list manager at rahmananna@yahoo.com.

Be assured that our subscriber list will not be sold or shared with any other entity or individual.

How the Listserv Works

The listserv works much like email, except that the recipient list includes all the individuals who have subscribed to the listserv. In other words, all email messages sent to the listserv will be distributed to all the subscribers at their own email addresses. Use your regular email service provider to send messages to the Borun Center list. In the “To:” field, simply type in this address: borun@lists.ucla.edu. When you send the message, it is automatically copied and sent to all the listserv subscribers.

You can easily identify email messages in your Inbox that were sent from listserv members. The message’s subject will be preceded by this identifier: (Borun Center).

You can respond to a message from a listserv subscriber just as you would to any email message: Simply hit your “Reply” button. Notice that the listserv address (borun@lists.ucla.edu) now appears in the “To:” field.

When posting mail to the list, be sure to include a short description of your topic in the subject line and include your name at the end of your message so your fellow subscribers will know who sent the message.

If you wish to respond directly and only to the individual who sent a particular message, do not respond to the list. Doing so will result in all of the list members receiving your personal response. Rather, send the mail directly to the intended recipient by creating a new email message or changing the address in the To: field of your email message.

How to Unsubscribe

You can unsubscribe at any time. Go to http://lists.ucla.edu/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/borun, scroll down to the section for “Borun Subscribers” and follow the directions. From here you can also change your options (e.g., change your password, request a password reminder, etc.).
